freely, friendly, increase, glistening, vanished, beyond, gently, extreme.

Have a look at the images of our trip to The Deep and our amazing Arctic shelters.

I would also like to thank the parents who took their time to support their children to create their shelters they look fantastic!

We are reading the classic novel The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. This book is full of adventure, friendship and dilemmas. The children will continue to use their grammar skills of subordinate clauses, prepositions and inverted commas to predict and write dialogues.  They will also have to use their imagination and inference skills to think carefully about what choices each animal makes and whether it would have an impact on the story if they changed their mind.

We are starting this half term by continuing to apply our division and multiplication knowledge to a range of problems and situations. Using this knowledge we will then move on to fractions. Where we will learn how to add fractions with a common denominator and find equivalent fractions. We will be constantly using our practical and formal methods for multiplication, subtraction and addition calculations.

We are continuing our topic this term of Denholme Detectives. We will continue to explore and learn about Denholme itself. We will learn how to read a basic grid map and understand the locality of each key building in Denholme. We will then move onto art and design based around our topic. Choosing one of the key places in Denholme drawing and improving our painting style.

Our Science topic is rocks.  We will start by understanding about all the different types of rocks. During this term we will conduct lots of experiments and explore the different types of fossils. We will also be able to explore the different types of rocks that are in caves.

This half term is a range of different ball games. Our P.E. days are Tuesday and Friday.  We will be doing P.E. inside and outside this half term.

Please ensure that your child has their full P.E. kit on both Tuesday and Friday.

Homework will be topic based again this term and your child will be given 2-3 weeks to complete their project.  If you require any extra resources for their homework, please ask.

Please check planners for weekly spellings.

How can you help your child at home?

Your child should have a copy of their Maths Passports.  These passports are an indication of the mental maths facts your child is expected to know.  We will have time in class to work on these too.

Please read with your child as often as possible.  Ask questions about the plot, characters and what they  think will happen.  Your child should also have a card with their username and password for access to BugClub which will be updated weekly.  You can support your child by helping them answers questions about the books.
